The Energy & Utilities Engineer helps operate and transform one of belgium's largest Industrial energy systems
At our Jemeppe-sur-Sambre site, energy and utilities are critical enablers of industrial performance.
Our department is responsible for managing an energy ecosystem comparable to a small utility company, including:
- a 100 MW combined heat and power plant with two LM6000 gas turbines; a steam turbine and industrial boilers;
- electricity and natural gas procurement;
- participation in electricity markets and flexibility mechanisms;
- water abstraction, treatment and effluent management facilities;
- site-wide energy efficiency and decarbonization programs.
Together, these activities support more than 2 TWh of annual energy consumption and an energy spend of approximately €100 million per year.
As part of a small expert team, you will contribute to the reliable, competitive and sustainable supply of energy and utilities while helping shape the site's long-term energy strategy.
What You Will Do
You will work at the interface between operations, engineering, markets and sustainability.
Energy & Utilities Operations
Support the management and optimization of the site's energy and utility systems, including:
- 100 MW CHP plant; 2 x LM6000 gas turbines; steam turbine and 3 boilers;
- 60 MW Solar plant
- water supply and treatment facilities;
- effluent treatment installations.
You will collaborate closely with our operational teams to resolve issues, improve performance and support long-term reliability.
Energy Performance & Continuous Improvement
Using monitoring and analytics tools, you will:
- identify performance deviations and improvement opportunities;
- develop and implement energy-efficiency initiatives;
- support operating teams in achieving measurable results;
- transform operational data into actionable recommendations.
Our energy management program has already generated more than €2 million per year in recurring savings, with many additional opportunities currently under development.
Projects & Decarbonization
You will contribute to the identification, evaluation and implementation of projects such as:
- waste heat recovery;
- process electrification;
- renewable energy integration;
- steam system optimization;
- energy flexibility solutions.
You will help build the roadmap that supports the site's long-term decarbonization ambitions.
Energy Markets & Commercial Optimization
You will participate in:
- electricity and gas contract management;
- optimization of on-site generation assets;
- flexibility and ancillary services markets;
- forecasting and operational planning;
- evaluation of new market opportunities.
Team & Stakeholder Support
As part of a lean organization, you will also contribute to:
- technical coaching and knowledge transfer;
- contractor and service provider management;
- collaboration with production, maintenance and corporate teams.
