The VCM-OCD R&D Manager leads catalyst developments and continuous improvement of industrial reactors for the Intermediates, OCD and IPC businesses and with his unique expertise in chemistry and chemical processes, provides deep scientific and chemical expertise to the broader INOVYN organization.

Accountabilities : 

  • Collects and assesses data (businesses, customers, production plants, sustainability, own investigations) and translates them into R&D projects validated by business.
  • Manages and operate R&D facility including pilots and develops new catalyst.  Propose optimal conditions for the VCM-EDC plants/processes and for other INOVYN processes and for business.
  • Explores and evaluates emerging processes.  Proposes partnerships with external partners (research institutes, Universities, …). Develops and negotiates research framework, actively supports contract drafting. Scouts and applies for external funding programs.
  • Investigates, improves and guides industrial reactors and processes : data analysis, trouble shouting, used catalyst characterization, definition of fine-tuned catalyst drop-ins or of catalyst replacement, specification of optimal operation conditions, test of used catalyst and industrial conditions on pilot units.  Provides key chemical and scientific expertise and input to the wider INOVYN organization.

Required profile :

Level of education & Experience in general
•    Master + PhD in chemistry / chemical engineering 
•    Minimum 5 years of experience, 15 years preferred, in applied industrial R&D with a demonstrated track records of R&D achievements, including minimum 2-3 years of Managing R&D or equivalent team.
•    High scientific understanding of chemical industrial processes and equipment with a strong background in catalysis and organic chemistry.

Technical skills :

•    Knowledge of industrial processes for production of chlorinated organic products; hazards, process chemistry, optimization, understanding of chemical engineering principle and material science.
•    Strong knowledge of catalyst preparation, characterization, development and production for inorganic and organic processes
•    Knowledge of process explorer tools such ASPEN, MINITAB, ..
•    Experience of strategy and tools to optimise research trials + stage gate approach
•    Understand financial analysis, budgeting, cost price and controlling, key economics of chemical processes.
•    Master Intellectual Property aspects (patents, secrets, agreements, freedom to operate, non-disclosure and joint development agreements…) to protect, valorise and enforce intellectual rights.
•    Fluent in written and spoken English and French. Other languages appreciated.
