Job Purpose: 

This is a specialist role to maintain and operate the high voltage equipment on Runcorn Site in accordance with the HV Safety Rules and agreed maintenance principles defined in the reliability centred maintenance studies for Distribution and Rectifier Equipment
Accountabilities: 

  • Operate and maintain these high voltage distribution assets in accordance with the High Voltage Safety Rules, agreed maintenance principle's defined by two Reliability Centered Maintenance studies and with reference to site operating instructions MAIN02 Rectifier Maintenance Strategy and  MAIN03 "Electrical Distribution Plant - Maintenance Frequency.”
  • Manage first line response to trips on the High Voltage Distribution Network.
  • Manage interface with external specialist contractors to provide ancillary support. This will include liaison with contractors and management of their activities on site.
  • Deliver maintenance requirements as defined in the detailed schedules of the of 3rd Party Service Level Agreements eg MCP and Vynova.
  • Provide technical and commissioning support to projects which need to make changes to the HV Distribution Network.
     

Education / Experience:

HNC Preferred or minimum 5 years expericence in electrical distribution related work.

Time Served Technician with understanding of

  • Knowledge of the HV Safety rules.
  • Awareness of the hazards and control measures associated with the HV System.
  • Low Voltage Electrical Isolation.
  • Permit to Work System.
  • Knowledge and understanding of plant:
    • Power Distribution Transformers and High Power Rectifier Transformers including On/ Off Load tap changers.
    • Series Fault Limiting Reactors and Tuned Power Factor Correction Capacitors.
    • MV Switchgear (fixed pattern and withdrawable; vacuum/SF6, oil, air).
    • High Voltage cable systems and accessories.
    • DC Battery systems including a range of different high power DC charging units.
    • Knowledge and understanding of cable systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of protection systems:
    • Over current and Earth Fault protection relays, both traditional "Induction Pattern" and modern "Numeric" protection relays.
    • Unit protection systems; Motor protection systems; Differential protections systems.
